Introduction

on jueves, 6 de mayo de 2010

Hi,here in this blog we are going to teach you some tips to save h2o,also we are going to help you to undestand the importance of water in our world. The porpouse of this blog is to make people understand the amount of water they waste without using it.WE INVITE YOU TO SAVE H2O !!!

Also we are making this blog for you to understand more about Volume and Capacity ,its definition, how to measure capacity, and also discovering Volume and Capacity´s measurements in water.

Sincerely: -Natalia leguizamon and Valeria Escobar

G.O Uses of H2O

on jueves, 29 de abril de 2010

This are our G.O about uses of H2o:

People use H2o in many ways such as in agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. This ways people uses water requiere on fresh water.
Fresh water is a renewable resources like soil and air, water is the most critical resources in the world

Volume and Capacity

What is volume or capacity? In math, capacity is the amount a container will hold when full

Capacity is generally measured in milliliters, liters, or kiloliters.

container-image
If the length, width, and height of this three-dimensional container, measures 5 cm, 10 cm, and 20 cm respectively, the volume is 5 cm × 10 cm × 20 cm = 1000 cm3

By definition, 1000 cm3 = 1 liter

So, the container above has a volume or capacity of 1 liter. This container is grossly or approximately the same size and has the same capacity as a
large bottle of soda

Milli is a prefix which refers to a division by 1000 or a multiplication by 0.001.

So, 1 milliliter = 1 liter/1000 = 1000 cm3/1000 = 1 cm3

1 milliliter is grossly the dimension of a container with length, width, and height of 1 cm, 1 cm, and 1 cm respectively since 1 cm × 1 cm × 1 cm = 1 cm3

In real life this could be compared to the capacity of a dose of medicine

Kilo is prefix which refers to a multiplication by 1000, so 1 kiloliter = 1 liter × 1000 = 1000 liters

1 kiloliter is approximately the capacity of a king-size water bed

As you may have noticed, kiloliters are used to measure huge quantity.

To discover Volume measurements we can use different equipment to measure capacity like:

  • Measuring jug:
  • Measuring spoons:

  • Beakers:

  • Measuring cylinders:

Define: Volume,Capacity and Cube

This are the definitions of how we can measure H2O:

  • Volume:The volume of a solid is the amount of space it occupies.
  • Capacity: Capacity is the amount of liquid a container can hold when it is full.

  • Cube: A cube is a solid with 6 square faces and 12 equal edges.

Volume of cube = 4 x 4 x 4
= 64 cm3

Uses of water in house (Game)

Experience in quantity of H2O

Phase 2:

1. Experiment:

As we do the experiment of how many water we use in 30 seconds we conclude that in that time we spend 4600 ml and x 2 = to 9200 ml in 30 seconds with the sink opened.
Answer: So in 1 Minuted we spend 9200 ml of water.

a) What is measure of the water flow?

The measure of the water flow is of 4.600 ml,but we multiply it by 2 because 30*2=60 secons that means the amount of water we waste in one minute,so 4.600*2=

b) How much time do you spend taking a shower?

Natalia's answer: I spend 7 minutes taking a shower.
Valeria's answer: I spend 15 minutes taking a shower.

c) How many times do you do that? (take a shower)

Natalia's answer: I take a shower 2 times in a day.
Valeria's answer:
I take a shower 2 times a day.

d) How many times in a week do you take a shower?

Natalia's answer:
I take 12 times a shower in a week
Valeria's answer: I take 12 times a shower in a hole week.

This are some pictures showing how we use water in our houses:

  • In the sink:

  • Taking a shower:

  • Using the toilet:

This are our prior knowledge of how do people use H2O:

Quantity of H2O

Phase 2:

a)How many times do you flush the toilet in 24 hours?

Valeria´s answer: I flush the toilet 4 times in 24 hours

Natalia´s answer:I flush the toilet 5 times in 24 hours

b)How long does it take to brush your teeth?how much water you spend?

Valeria´s answer: I spend 7 minutes brushing my teeth, and i spend 500 mililiters of water brushing them.

Natalia´s answer: I spend 8 minutes brushing my teeth and i spend 600 mililiters of H2O brushing it.

c)How many times a day do you brush your teeth?

Valeria´s answer: I brush my teeth 2 times on a day.
Natalia´s answer: I brush my teet 4 times on a day.

d)How long does it take to wash your hands ?how much water do you spend?

Valeria´s answer:For washing me hands and spend 2 minutes and i use the amount of water of 400 mililiters.
Natalia´s answer: I spend 1minute washing my hands and i spend the amount of water of 500 mililiters.

Estimate: Phase 3

on martes, 27 de abril de 2010

1.How much water do you spend in one day?

  • Valeria spend 1353.8 Liters in one day (24 hours)
297.836 valeria's amount of spend water in a day in gallons.
  • Natalia spend 3761.4 liters on one day.
Natalia spend 827.508 gallons of water ina day.

2.How much water do you spedn in one month?

  • Valeria spend 40614 liters in one month and in gallons i spend 8935.08 in 30 days.
  • Natalia spend 112842 liters in one month
and i spend 24825,24 gallons in 30 days.
